Tim Benjamin

Tim Benjamin was the UK’s top 400m runner for seven years, an Olympic finalist and World Championship Silver Medallist. He has competed at every major athletics championships including the 2004 Athens Olympics, five World Championships, two European Championships and the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. He retired in 2009 following eleven years as an international sprinter and victory at the 2009 European Cup.

Tim’s breakthrough into world-class came in 2005 when he broke the magical 45 second barrier five times, finishing second in the IAAF world rankings and defeating Olympic Champion Jeremy Warriner at the London Grand Prix in Crystal Palace. He was part of the GB 4 X 400m team for eight years winning silver medals at the World Indoor Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games for Wales.

Tim was a prolific junior talent, beginning his career as a 100m and 200m sprinter. He won gold at the World Youth Championships and World Junior Championships over 200m and the 4 x100m relay respectively before moving up to the 400m event in 2001 after injury curtailed his speed training. With no experience over the longer sprint, he claimed a gold medal and the 2001 European Junior Championships and so began his 400m career.

Tim’s successful career was curtailed by injury and he took the difficult decision to retire in 2009 despite many strong performances. Since then Tim has used his knowledge and experience of elite sport to develop sport at grassroots level, coach a number of junior international athletes and develop as a personal trainer.

His extensive knowledge of the human anatomy, sport rehabilitation, having trained alongside some of the world’s greatest athletes and coaches, his passion and knowledge for personal performance are exceptional.
